JO  WILSON

CONTEMPORARY  &  ABSTRACT  ARTIST

Havelock North      Hawkes Bay      New Zealand

Jo is a local Hawkes Bay resident, married with two daughters.  Her hairdressing background

has given her a strong creative flair, with an eye for detail and focus on colour

and composition in her artworks

Jo is a self taught artist and she enjoys the freedom to paint whatever, however with no

boundaries to work by.  Her art is unique in style, not having to explain or interpret them,

leaving the judgment in the eye of the beholder.

She aims to create rich vibrant works with a diverse range of subjects.

She sees her art as a creative journey, always exploring new concepts and developing

innovative techniques. She pushes the boundaries of acrylic paints and the many .

mediums she uses with them.  Most recently exploring the wondrous effects of resin.

Her style is very diverse and versatile with the genres spanning across contemporary,

surrealist and abstract art.

Having the freedom to paint intuitively is a unique attribute for Jo.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

What inspires my art?”  I get asked that often.  Painting is a passion for me, often

with no preconceived ideas until the paint touches the canvas,

my work takes on a life of its own.

Working with texture and colour is intoxicating.  I experiment a lot, I

push the envelope and ask myself “what if……..?”

It can sometimes take several weeks to complete a painting as I hang them and

ponder over the composition and colours before the final changes

and then I apply several coats of varnish to finish and protect the work. Often I may

see a picture in a magazine or an image or textured print of a fabric and become

inspired with an idea that can be transposed onto canvas.

 About the Art

My paintings are painted on exhibition quality stretched canvases on wooden

stretch bars, with only professional artist quality materials used.  I often

incorporate different artist mediums to give a textured 3D effect in my work.

All paintings are finished with several coats of varnish to protect them.  They

are hooked and strung ready to hang.

It is always best to hang the paintings out of direct sunlight, this is to protect

them from fading.  You can gently dust or wipe with a soft damp cloth

if necessary,

NO chemicals or sprays.

As many of my paintings can take several weeks to complete, my prices

can vary.

Prices are relevant to the size of the canvas and the amount of product

used.

All painting prices are subject to change.

If you are at all interested in any of my works, don't hesitate to contact me

via email on the contact page.
